Breakfast Time and nutella

A 15g portion of nutella combined with other breakfast components such as: You many not know that nutella is a hazelnut spread and releases its energy slowly. It is a low glycaemic index (GI) food. In fact, every 15g portion contains 2 whole hazelnuts, some skimmed milk and a dash of cocoa. When using nutella the hazelnut spread there is no need to use butter or an alternative fat spread. Low glycaemic index (GI) breakfasts (because they release energy slowly) can help maintain energy levels and reduce the need for snacking later on* |
Guideline daily amounts (GDA) and nutella
An important part of making healthy choices is understanding food labels. Guidleine daily amounts or GDAs are a guide for adults and children highlighting daily approximate amounts of energy (kcal), fat and other nutrients a person should be eating in a day for a healthy diet and are used by many supermarkets and manufacturers on their packs. They provide a reference point for roughly assessing a serving of a particular food or drink so help people understand what contribution a food will make to their overall diet. GDA values for fat, saturated fat, sugar and salt represent suggested upper limits for how much to eat whereas the GDA for fibre represent a minimum amount. The below table is a simple guide to the % of an adult GDA provided by a 15g portion of nutella the equivalent of 2 teaspoons. |
